“Brigadier AWS MALLABY murdered in car by Indonesians yesterday while attempting arrange truce. Two of three British captains with him escaped by exploding grenade diving into nearby canal wading swimming five and a half hours down to Naval base. They are captains TL LAUGHLAND of Jordan Hill GLASGOW and RS SMITH Bromley KENT. With three captains Brigadier left his besieged HQ IN (with?) Indonesian party leaders.
